How to use the calculator
Type your own figures into the white fields. For every item you enter the average monthly cost and the share of it that is really logistics — a warehouse that doubles as a showroom might be 50 %.
The grey fields work themselves out. They show the monthly logistics cost of the item and what it adds to a single order.
Do not forget the number of orders a month. Every monthly cost is divided by it, so it is what decides the final cost per order.

Intralogistics costs / month
Warehouse rent
Fixed cost of renting the warehouse. An average of the yearly cost for the space, regardless of how full it is.
Insurance and security
The cost of insuring and securing the warehouse or the stock in it.
Utilities and other charges
Water, electricity, heating, cleaning, the gatehouse and so on. When working out the monthly average, remember the heating season.
Warehouse equipment
The difference between what the equipment cost and what it is still worth, maintenance included — racking, scanners, packing benches, trolleys, plastic bins and the rest. The residual value is what you would get for it on resale.
Software and IT
Buying the software, a WMS above all — the system that runs the warehouse and talks to the scanners, printers and conveyors. Once order volumes grow, it stops being optional.
Warehouse staff
The full cost of the people who run the warehouse — or of your own time. Goods receipt and put-away, checks and stocktakes, ordering packaging, picking and packing, printing labels and documents, handing parcels to the carrier, talking to customers, returns and claims.
Warehouse manager
The full cost of whoever runs the warehouse team, in part or in full — or of your own time. Shift planning, running the operation, admin, training, and dealing with carriers and packaging suppliers.
Temporary staff
Temporary workers covering absences and seasonal peaks. An average of the yearly cost, with the peaks included.
